When I look at a weapon in my inventory or in the shop it does not show the damage range. I have to basically equip all of the items I find to see what the damage is. I imagine this is unintentional?

The weapons should show damage when you view them in the shop to buy them. What you see when you equip them on the character dialog is your character's damage -- this is mostly made up from the equipped weapon but can potentially include damage from other things as well.
